How to Fish Economy & Money Guide

Gold comes from selling your catch — and smart players multiply it with Killscore trick-shot bonuses, grill cooking and the right customers. This hub collects the verified money methods and explains the in-game gambling (gold only, never real money).

Quick Answer: How Money Works in How to Fish

The core loop is: catch creatures → kill → (optionally cook) → sell to or feed NPCs → spend the gold on equipment and upgrades. There is no separate casino currency, store prices do not change when your wallet empties, and payouts are never guaranteed. The two big multipliers are Killscore (up to 5x on skillful kills) and grill cooking (about 1.5x) — they are separate systems and stack.

  • Gold sources: selling fish, killing seagulls, completing tasks, skillful-kill bonuses.
  • Everything in the in-game gambling is gold only — never real money (Steam labels it cartoon violence and fish gambling).

Recommended Money Order

  • Early: sell common fish, start practicing Killscore, buy the Radar and the Shotgun.
  • Island 3: unlock the grill immediately and cook every fish to 1.5x before selling.
  • Late: high-value creatures + 5x Killscore + cooking is the maximum single-catch income.
  • Casino: only ever wager what you can afford to lose.

Killscore in Short

Skillful kills — 360 spins, no-scope shots, aerial kills and more — multiply the money a kill earns, with combinations reaching 5x and beyond. It stacks on top of the grill's 1.5x and is the single most important value-adder in the economy. The full multiplier table and practice method live on the trick shots page.

💡 Weaken the target first, pull back, perform the trick, then land the final blow — and never practice on a freshly summoned boss.

The Casino: Roulette and Reel of Fortune

The game has two separate gambling systems, and only one of them takes gold.

  • Roulette (casino-style): bets placed with in-game gold on red/black, green or single numbers; green pays extremely high and feeds the "All in" achievement.
  • Roulette discipline: wager 10-20% of a fish-selling run, stop after two consecutive losses, cash out immediately on a green hit.
  • Reel of Fortune (skin lottery): consumes Drip creatures (rare rainbow-named variants), not gold; pays weapon skins, one machine per island, and Drip regenerates infinitely.

Economy Management Rules

  • Upgrade priority: Radar → reliable weapon (Shotgun) → grill unlock → ammunition/attachments → late Assault Rifle.
  • Never sell mission loot (shells, fins, tails and similar trophies).
  • Cooking before selling is always more profitable than raw — after the grill unlocks, raw fish is a loss.
  • High-value creature + high Killscore + cooking is the real late-game money machine.
